Class Descriptions
Over the years, we have experimented with class names, styles, levels and labels but ultimately, we want everyone to feel comfortable in our classes. With that said, some classes will be more challenging than others, while other classes will be geared towards beginner’s or a gentler approach. If you have health concerns, need assistance or have mobility issues that may prevent you from participating, please email charleenp@yahoo.com prior to attending class, or try to arrive a few minutes before class start time and speak with the instructor directly. We will always do our best to accommodate individuals while preserving the integrity of a diverse group practice.
Key Words:
FLOW - Generally indicates a Vinyasa style class. Vinyasa is a style of yoga that utilizes intelligent posture sequencing, sun-salutations and potential for a moderate pace and optional challenge poses. Most Vinyasa classes can include modifications to make the poses simpler but ultimately this is a dynamic movement class that includes warm-ups, sun-salutations, standing poses, peak pose(s), cool down and restorative/savasana.
YIN - A style of yoga devoted to the art of physical discipline. An hour long class may only include a few different poses, each one held for a few minutes on each side (right/left). Most Yin poses have modifications to accommodate the individual ability and can include props for support to help the pose be more accessible. Most of the poses are done from a seated or lying down position. The purpose of this style is to slowly, safely encourage mobility/flexibility while maintaining mindfulness.
